H.O.W. Dinner Honors Brenda Foster

NORTH FORK — Helping One Woman (H.O.W.) will be honoring Brenda Foster this month at The Pines on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Brenda and Jimmy Foster are long-time residents of North Fork. For many years they led youth activities and graduation exercises throughout the mountain communities.

Brenda’s desire has always been to serve others and to leave her imprint with the youth. Jim is much loved in the community and his goal is to mentor young men in their Christian faith. They have two grown children and six grandchildren.

This single-income family has faced many challenges over the past 35 years, and continues to focus on giving back to the community. As a family, they value their privacy and are more comfortable giving than receiving. To honor their wishes, organizers have agreed to limit public information concerning their current challenges.

“Brenda meets all the criteria to be a H.O.W. recipient, and we believe that showering them with emotional support and financial gifts will be a blessing to the Foster family,” says friend Alice York.

This month’s H.O.W. dinner will be held at The Pines Bar & Grill on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m.

H.O.W. is a nonprofit woman’s organization that meets monthly for an uplifting evening in honor of one deserving woman who receives the community’s support when they need it the most.

Money is put in a pot, jar or fish bowl for the current honoree and gifted to her at the end of the dinner. The amount donated per person is usually $10 and sometimes more, depending on the giver’s choice. Ultimately, the total amount of the gift given is determined by the number of women who attend.

Future recipients are nominated at the dinner by those attending.
