Former Employee Arrested, Accused of Hitching Post Thefts

AHWAHNEE — A former employee is accused of stealing money from a popular area business over a six-month period. The alleged crime first came to light in late February when the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a theft report from the owner of the Hitching Post restaurant and bar. 

The suspect was subsequently identified as Angel Anderson, 62, of Bass Lake. 

During an investigation it was discovered that the alleged thefts had taken place between September 2019 and February 2020 while Anderson was employed at the restaurant, located at 42592 Highway 49.

The total amount of money missing is believed to be between $3,000 and $5,000.

On Wednesday (July 8), a warrant was issued for Anderson’s arrest and on Thursday, MCSO detectives, with the assistance of the MCSO POP Team and MCSO patrol, contacted Anderson near her home and placed her under arrest with out incident, according to Deputy Sarah Jackson, MCSO public information officer.

Anderson was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections on grand theft charges and has since been released on $50,000 bail.
