CHP Oakhurst Reported a Fatal Solo Vehicle Crash on Road 274 This Morning

On May 1, 2026, at approximately 3:46 a.m., CHP Oakhurst officers responded to a call of a solo vehicle rollover crash on Road 274 at Fawn Point Lane in Bass Lake, CA. The driver, a 72-year-old male from Clovis, CA, was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 northbound on Road 274, approaching Fawn Point Lane at an unknown speed.

For an unknown reason, the driver was unable to negotiate a sharp curve, causing the vehicle to leave the east roadway edge and overturn. The vehicle struck a tree and rock boulders as it overturned. It came to rest on its roof approximately 30 feet down an embankment, facing in a southwesterly direction.

The driver was wearing his seat belt and was pinned inside the vehicle. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and provided life-saving measures; however, the driver unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The crash is currently under investigation.
