YUSD Board Member Retires, Will Continue to Work Statewide

Monika Moulin retires from YUSD Board of Trustees.

AHWAHNEE – Veteran school trustee Monika Moulin retires from her seat on the Yosemite Unified School District Board of Trustees at the end of the year, it was announced this week.  Her current term ends December 2022.

The Ahwahnee resident has served on the Oakhurst-based district’s governing board since the unification of the former Yosemite High School District and its feeder Coarsegold Elementary School District in the early 2000’s. During most of that time, Moulin has been a consultant and trainer for the California School Boards Association (CSBA), leading sessions and workshops in governance for board members around the state. She plans to continue working in that capacity for CSBA going forward.

“It has been such a privilege to have served the kids and families and schools in the Yosemite district,” Moulin said. “When the unification of the two districts was on the ballot in 2005, the voters chose two members of the old high school board, two members of the old elementary school board, and myself.  From that point on, I was honored to represent this community that I love in this special way. Of course, I’ll miss it, but it has enriched my life immensely, and I’m so proud to have been a part of such a wonderful organization.”

Moulin indicated that her responsibilities leading trainings and workshops for the state association will allow her to continue pursuing her passion to serve public education, but on a different level than serving on a local school board.

Areas in which she provides training sessions through CSBA include community relations and advocacy, and policy and judicial review, along with facilitating individual school district workshops in good governance.

Prior to reentering the independent public relations consulting arena in 2003, Moulin served as vice president for Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, where she led teams handling campaigns for Netflix, Microsoft’s Games Division and Microsoft’s home productivity software.

During her professional career, she managed public relations and publicity campaigns for ITT Sheraton, the Tournament of Roses Association, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Ticketmaster, Mazda Motor of America, Taco Bell, Hunt-Wesson, Oscar-Mayer, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Moulin trained in music at Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas and at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Freiburg, Germany. She earned her CSBA Masters in Governance certificate in 2007.

She serves as a director of music for a local church and operates, with husband Kirk, Yosemite Entertainment, the area’s premier provider of music services for weddings and other events in and around Yosemite National Park.
