OAKHURST – Firefighters were prepared this evening for a particular type of call. With temperatures dropping, and homeowners lighting the first fire of the season in the woodstove, there was the potential for a structure fire.
Just before 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct 28, the call came in for a fire at a home on Terri Lane just east of Oakhurst off Road 426.
The fire got into the attic of the mobile home near the stove pipe when homeowners started a fire in their woodstove. When the first engines arrived, the resident was attacking the fire with a garden hose.
Firefighters got the fire doused in short order, but with some heat still in the attic, they had to tear down a portion of the ceiling inside the residence to be sure that it was completely out.
Madera County Fire Department Engine #12 responded, along with Cal Fire Engines #4254, 4264 and 4294. No injuries were reported.
