COARSEGOLD — Grab the kiddos and plan to head over to Rivergold School as Out of the Box Theater presents an original comedy show based on the Wizard of Oz, set for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 18 and 19.
The Wizard Of Oz and Friends will take the stage live at Rivergold in the school theater for three shows total, not counting the all-school production Friday morning.
The first public performance takes place on Friday, Mar. 18 at 7 p.m., followed by a matinee on Saturday, Mar. 19 at 2 p.m., and a finale show on Saturday at 7 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before show time.
Staged by Teena Hagerman, Jennifer Moore and Karen Urrutia, the show cast includes Emma Lynch in the role of Dorothy, Michael Quarles as the Lion, Tyla Spurgeon as the Scarecrow, Sam Franco as the Wizard of Oz, and Madelynn Kocsis as Glinda.
Taking on the roles of prominent munchkins are Lila Oster (Purple Hat Munchkin), Brooke Kocsis (Pink Hat Munchkin) and Skyler Kocsis (Blue Hat Munchkin).
This production has been in rehearsal since Jan. 20, while members from Out of the Box have been promoting arts and donating their time in schools for over a decade. Parents pay a performance fee of $50 to help offset production costs, and all profits from ticket sales go back into the school’s arts program.
Tickets are $5 for general admission adults, while students and seniors are entitled to a discounted ticket for $3.
“Theater empowers children,” say organizers. “Anytime you take the stage your confidence builds. It’s a great tool to take with you through life.”
