“Welcome to Oakhurst” Sign Restored To Former Glory
OAKHURST, CA – The word is out: the “Welcome to Oakhurst” sign has been restored to its former glory and is ready to welcome visitors once again. If you missed the exciting reveal at the Oakhurst Fall Festival this past weekend, we want to make sure that everyone in our mountain community is aware of this fantastic news—the beloved sign is alive and well and will soon find its place again in the heart of Oakhurst.
For those unfamiliar, the sign has been undergoing an extensive restoration process at the Sign Hospital. Initially brought in as a collection of disassembled parts, the sign has since been meticulously restored to look as enchanting as the day it was first installed. This remarkable undertaking was not only a labor of love but also a testament to the importance of local heritage, as the sign carries significant sentimental value for residents and visitors alike.

Sign History
Originally crafted by Signs by Firesign, the “Welcome to Oakhurst” sign was erected two decades ago under the guidance of Catherine Nixon Hendrickson, the previous owner and mother of the current owner, Hannah Nelson. Hendrickson played an instrumental role in the design, creation, and installation of the sign, which has since become a cherished landmark within the community. It stands as a symbol of Oakhurst’s identity, blending artistry with a warm welcome that captures the spirit of this beautiful mountain town.
Community spirit thrives in Oakhurst, and the local company Signs by Firesign has committed to maintaining this iconic fixture for years to come. According to a representative of the company, “As long as Signs by Firesign is still around, we will ensure that the sign is always taken care of and put back in its spot on Deadwood Mountain, no matter the circumstance—even if it suffers from a mishap like being hit by a car.”
This dedication reflects a deep-rooted love for the community and its history, as the sign is not just a welcoming beacon; it is a reminder of the values and unity that define Oakhurst. As the installation date approaches, excitement is building, and local residents can’t wait to see the sign illuminated once again, welcoming both locals and visitors with open arms. So, be on the lookout for the grand reinstallation—ranked among the highlights of our mountain town’s landscape, it promises to be a heartwarming homecoming for a piece of our community heritage.
