Visions of Self – An International Juried Art Exhibition For Female Artists

International Art Exhibition

OAKHURST, CA – An international art exhibition dedicated to women’s voices is now accepting submissions for its sixth annual competition. The show, titled Visions of Self, is sponsored by Yosemite Sierra Artists and invites female artists from around the world to explore identity, experience, and perspective through visual art.

The 2025–2026 exhibition is currently viewable online at MettaGallery.com. Organizers have also announced key dates for the upcoming 2026 competition cycle. Submissions open January 1, 2026, and close February 8, 2026.

Visions of Self centers on personal storytelling through art. Artists may submit work reflecting self-portraiture, environment, emotions, or a broader state of being. The exhibition emphasizes authenticity, reflection, and lived experience.

Unlike traditional gallery shows, the exhibition takes place entirely online. As a result, artists from any location may participate without shipping artwork. This structure also allows the show to reach an international audience.

The 2026 exhibition will officially open online on March 1, 2026. The opening aligns intentionally with Women’s History Month. Organizers say the timing highlights women’s creative contributions across cultures.

A Platform for Personal Expression

The exhibition encourages artists to define their own narratives. Each selected artist may submit a Vision Statement to accompany their work. These statements appear alongside the artwork in the online gallery.

Organizers describe the statements as a key component of the exhibition. They provide context, intention, and deeper meaning for viewers. They also allow artists to speak directly to a global audience.

Eligible artwork must be original and created by the submitting artist. The show accepts a wide range of artistic media. Accepted forms include painting, photography, mixed media, fiber art, sculpture, and illustration.

Digital art is also eligible for submission. However, the exhibition enforces strict originality standards. Artwork that is primarily AI-generated will be disqualified.

This policy reflects the show’s focus on personal voice and human experience. Organizers say the rule protects artistic integrity. It also ensures fairness within the juried process.

Online Exhibition with Artist-First Model

The international exhibition operates without commissions on sales. If artwork sells, proceeds go directly to the artist. Organizers say this approach supports working artists more equitably.

Because the show exists online, artists avoid framing and shipping expenses. This format also removes geographic barriers. As a result, emerging and established artists may compete equally. The exhibition’s online structure has grown steadily over six years. Each annual show draws submissions from diverse regions. Themes continue to evolve with each cycle.

Artist notifications for the 2026 exhibition will be sent February 14, 2026. Selected works will appear in the online gallery beginning March 1. The exhibition will remain accessible throughout Women’s History Month.

Awards and Recognition

The exhibition includes multiple juried awards.
Best of Show receives a $200 cash award and ribbon.
First Place earns $125 and a ribbon.
Second Place receives $75 and a ribbon.
Third Place receives $50 and a ribbon.
Honorable Mentions will also receive ribbons.

Organizers say the awards recognize artistic excellence and impact. They also provide tangible support to participating artists. Recognition often helps artists build resumes and portfolios.

Entry Fees and Membership Options

Submission fees vary by membership status.
Current YSA members pay $15 for the first entry. Additional entries cost $10 each.
Non-members pay $20 for the first entry. Additional entries also cost $10 each.
A YSA discount code will be sent to current members.

Organizers encourage artists to review submission guidelines carefully. Complete and accurate entries help streamline jury review. Incomplete submissions may not be considered.

Jurors Bring Diverse Perspectives

Two experienced artists will serve as judges for the 2026 exhibition. Michele Chmielewski brings extensive experience as an artist and educator based in Boise, Idaho. Her work emphasizes technique, concept, and creative development. Joining her is Carolynne Gamble, a multi-media artist based in Oakhurst, California. Gamble’s practice spans materials and styles. She also brings deep insight into contemporary visual storytelling.

Organizers say the judges were selected for complementary perspectives. Their combined backgrounds support a balanced evaluation process. Both jurors value originality, clarity, and emotional resonance.

Building a Global Conversation

Visions of Self continues to grow as a global platform. The exhibition connects women artists across cultures and disciplines. It also invites viewers to reflect on shared human experiences. By focusing on self, environment, and emotional truth, the show creates dialogue. That dialogue extends beyond geography and medium. Organizers believe the exhibition strengthens artistic community.

Submissions for the 2026 exhibition open January 1. Full details and guidelines are available through MettaGallery.com. Artists are encouraged to begin preparing work early.

As Women’s History Month approaches, Visions of Self offers space for reflection. It also offers recognition. Most importantly, it offers women artists a global stage.
