Vegetation Fire Near Redinger Lake

NORTH FORK — Firefighters put a quick stop to a vegetation fire at Redinger Lake late this afternoon, even with the long, winding and narrow road they had to maneuver to get down to the dam/boat launch area.

Just after 5:30 p.m. reports came in of a small grass fire near the boat ramp. First engine at scene reported it at about one-third of an acre, burning between the parking lot and the water’s edge in tall grass and brush.

Sierra National Forest Engines 32 and 52 responded, along with Cal Fire Rancheria Engine 4255 and Madera County Fire Engine 11.

Redinger Lake Fire 5-23-16Winds were gusting pretty good at times in the San Joaquin River canyon, and with a steep canyon wall and very tall, dry grass out ahead of it, firefighters made a good catch on this one, containing it by 6:17 p.m.

Crews stayed at scene for about two hours to make sure it was dead out, and the fire was called controlled at 8 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
