Vegetation Fire Near Jerseydale, Cause Under Investigation

MARIPOSA – Firefighters were called out to reports of vegetation fire last night in the Jerseydale area.

At about 9:40 p.m., reports came in of a “glow” in the area of Bear Clover Lane west of Scott Road. The first unit at scene reported the fire at less than five acres, burning in deep duff and timber understory, with two vehicles inside the perimeter.

Cal Fire and Mariposa County Fire responded with six engines, two hand crews and a water tender. Firefighters had the forward progress stopped at 3 acres by about 10:30 p.m., with an estimated 6 to 8 hours for control and mop-up due to the heavy downfall.

It has been determined that the fire is on Forest Service land, and as of this morning, two engines and a water tender from the Sierra National Forest are still on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
