Vegetation Fire Burning On Ben Hur Road

MARIPOSA COUNTY — Firefighters are on scene of a vegetation fire reported near 3081 Ben Hur Road near Silver Bar Road.

At about 4 p.m., a full wildland dispatch was called out to a fire that grew quickly to 20 acres.

The fire is reported to be pushing northeast from the point of origin.

Engines from Cal Fire and Mariposa County Fire are at scene, plus dozers, water tenders and aircraft.

At 4:32 p.m., the Incident Commander requested five additional air tankers, and more ground crews. A 5-acre spot fire near Silver Bar was quickly contained.

The Sheriff’s Office and CHP have also been notified, and are closing Ben Hur Road at Buckeye on the north. Hard closures on roads in the area continue to be put in place.

Minimal structure threat at this time, but that could change if the fire reaches Oak Grove, say officials.

At 5:01 p.m., seven additional engines were called up to respond to the incident.

As of 5:06 p.m., the fire is estimated at 150 to 200 acres, and PCFs from five companies have been called up to man their engines to cover stations not staffed due to the call-out to the Ben Hur fire.

We will update as conditions develop.
