Update On The Camp Fire Near Bass Lake 4 PM

SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST — Crews are making good progress on the Camp Fire, burning 4.6 miles up Central Camp Road near Forest Road 6S06.

Firefighters now have a hose lay around the entire perimeter, and the fire is 30 percent contained.

The Camp Fire was reported at about 1 p.m. today, and is holding at 5-10 acres. Forward progress has been stopped.

We expect a more accurate estimate on acreage once the fire has been assessed with GPS, and will post when that info becomes available.

There are currently two air tankers, one Air Attack, one Type 2 crew, six engines, and three helicopters assigned to the incident, with more crews en route.

The Sierra National Forest is being assisted by Cal Fire, Madera County Fire and the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

Campers at Gaggs Camp and Whiskers have been notified of the fire, along with Central Camp residents, but no evacuations have been ordered.

Central Camp Road is closed at Road 274. Anyone leaving the Central Camp area will need to do so through Beasore Road.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
