Update On Hunters Valley Fire

MARIPOSA COUNTY – Fire crews worked through the night to gain 50% containment of the now 90-acre Valley Fire, burning in the Hunters Valley area of Mariposa County.

The fire, which was reported on Friday afternoon, June 6, is burning near Hunters Valley Road and Firehouse Road in the Bear Valley area.

CHP is in the area for traffic control, and everyone is being advised to avoid the area for the safety of themselves and emergency responders.

Currently assigned to the incident are 9 crews, 4 water tenders, 20 engines, 2 dozers, 1 air attack and 1 helicopter.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Evacuations were ordered by the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office late yesterday from the 7900 Block of Hunters Valley Road to Bear Valley Road, and Bear Valley Road from Hunters Valley Road to the 4400 block / top of the ridge of Bear Valley Road.

An evacuation advisement is in effect from the 4500 block of Bear Valley Road to Highway 49 North.

Road Closures: Hunters Valley Road at Bear Valley Road and Hunters Valley Access Road at Bear Valley Road.

For those residents ordered to evacuate (from the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office):

You have been ordered to evacuate because of the danger in or expected around your area. Leave your residence. Take with you and your family any medications and/or medical equipment, identification, family and friend phone numbers, and pets.

There is a possibility you will be required to evacuate. Prepare to evacuate by gathering medications, medical equipment, identification, family and friend phone numbers, and small pets.

An evacuation center has been opened at the Cathey’s Valley Baptist Church located at 4565 Cornetts Entrance Road, Catheys Valley.
