Update On Grub Fire In Ahwahnee

AHWAHNEE — Firefighters continue to strengthen lines and work on hot spots on the Grub Fire, burning along Road 600 south of Ahwahnee.

The forward progress of the fire was stopped yesterday evening, and it is now 50 percent contained at an estimated 85 acres.

The Grub Fire was reported on Thursday, Aug 4, just after 2 p.m., and spread quickly across the steep hillside of Grub Gulch, prompting the closure of a portion of Road 600, and evacuations.

The road was reopened and residents allowed to return home by 4:45 p.m.

Anyone traveling Road 600 should be aware of the fire equipment moving along the narrow, winding road.

  1. Another save by our amazing firefighters. So thankful these local fires have been somewhat spaced out and not happening all at once. Interesting, now that I think about it! Very scary and exhausting for all of us mountain folks, let alone our brave fire crews.
