OAKHURST — Two people were transported to Community Medical Center in Fresno after a single-vehicle accident on Deadwood closed Highway 41 for about an hour.
Jean Smith, 62, of Oakhurst was driving her black Chevy Suburban south on Highway 41 from Oakhurst up Deadwood when she lost control of the vehicle. Both she and her son Chris Smith, 21, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were transported by Sierra Ambulance to Fresno with moderate injuries.
The call came in to the California Highway Patrol at 11:27 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, that a black Chevy Suburban had crashed just south of Oakhurst.
“It was a solo vehicle accident,” said Officer Samaniego of the CHP. “The vehicle left the roadway and the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over. It came to rest on its wheels.”
Highway 41 was closed in both directions just south of Oakhurst for about an hour while the wreck was cleared and the injured were transported.
While many people turned around and headed up 425B or Thornberry Road, traffic backed up all the way down to the light at the intersection of Highways 41 & 49, and for several miles in the other direction. The road was re-opened at 12:23 p.m., but took about a half-hour to clear.
Along with units from the CHP, engines from Cal Fire, Sierra Ambulance and Doc’s Towing responded.
