Twenty-Three Wildfires Burning Across California

CALIFORNIA – As crews are demobilized from the Willow Fire in Eastern Madera County, they are likely being reassigned to one of nearly two-dozen incidents burning across the state.

There are 23 active fires across California, with over 10,000 firefighters battling them. Tinder dry conditions from the drought continue to allow wildfires to burn at an explosive rate.

Just last week Cal Fire crews responded to over 300 new wildfires. In fact, already this year Cal Fire has responded to over 4,200 wildfires, which is about 1,500 more wildfires than the average for the same time period.

Normal temperatures will continue throughout Northern California today. Scattered thunderstorms are expected in the northern and eastern areas, bringing the possibility of additional dry lightning.  Dry and warmer temperatures are expected to return on Wednesday, followed by more thunderstorm activity on Thursday that could occur across much of the Sierra and Coastal mountains, and possibly into the foothills and valleys.

Cal Fire asks you to do your part to be fire safe when having fun outdoors.  Visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org for tips on how to prevent wildfires.
