OAKHURST — Fresno Flats Historical Park and Museum (Sierra Historic Sites Association) invites the community to the First Friday Free Lecture Series on Friday, July 6 at 6 p.m.
July’s topic is based on the book, To Yosemite by Stage, written by Zelda Garey Dubel. Fresno Flats Board Member and local historian, Brenda Negley, will lead the presentation, with over 200 historical photos onhand provided by the author. In addition, Zelda will be in attendance for the event.
Attendees may look forward to an account of the horse-drawn stage route for tourists between Raymond and Wawona from 1886 to about 1913.
The trip was forty-two miles and took twelve hours. Stories include those about individuals, hotels, and a stage hold-up, as well as the towns and areas of interest the stage went through. Raymond, Grub Gulch, Gertrude, Ahwahnee, Nipinnawasee, Fish Camp — this is our local history.
Doors open in the Cunningham School house at Fresno Flats at 6 p.m. with refreshments, and the presentation starts at 6:30 p.m.
Fresno Flats Historical Park and Museum is located at 49777 School Road, Oakhurst, CA 93644
