MERCED COUNTY—The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is proud to announce that it is partnering with the Merced Police Department, Merced County Sheriff’s Office, and other Merced County Law Enforcement Agencies to kick off the “2025 Seat Belts Save Lives Campaign.” The campaign will significantly benefit Merced County by enhancing public safety, reducing injuries, and saving lives.
In 2024, Merced County had 56 fatal traffic crashes. Furthermore, more than 20% of the victims fail to restrain themselves properly.
Seat belts are a proven safety measure that can decrease the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passengers by 45% and moderate to critical injury by 50%. If you buckle up in a light truck, you can reduce your risk of fatal injury by 60%.
Merced County’s Commitment
By participating in the 2025 seat belt campaign, Merced County shows its commitment to safeguarding its residents. This initiative aims to enhance overall safety for everyone in the community.
“As law enforcement professionals, we are committed to ensuring the safety of all individuals on the road.” Said CHP Merced Area Commander Antonio Dominguez.
Dominguez continues, “Wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself in the event of a crash.”
The campaign will run from January 27th to February 2nd, 2025. Merced County is implementing the 2025 seat belt campaign, expecting to increase seat belt usage. Also, it will enhance child safety and raise public awareness.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Click It or Ticket” campaign further underscores the importance of seat belt use. This national initiative focuses on educating drivers and passengers about the life-saving benefits of seat belts. Also, by highlighting the legal consequences of not wearing them. By aligning with such campaigns, Merced County reinforces its commitment to public safety. Learn more at nhtsa.gov.
