OAKHURST – Philanthropic organization Mountain Community Women (MCW) has announced the winners of the 23rd annual Tables and Taters luncheon and friendly table-setting competition, held Nov. 5 at the Oakhurst Community Center.
With 135 tickets sold at $10 each, MCW member Melanie Bainbridge reports that the afternoon was “a huge success, with a very successful raffle and silent auction.”“All proceeds go toward maintaining the Oakhurst Community Center and are dispersed, as necessary, by the Oakhurst Community Center Board of Directors,” says Bainbridge, who knows the community space is vital to the operation of many activities and organizations in the area.
Central to the fun in fundraising for Tables and Taters is a table-decorating competition. Friend of MCW Barbara Weller garnered Third Prize for her colorful theme table, “Springtime on My Porch.”
Taking home Second Prize was MCW Assistant Membership Chair, Linda Core, whose holiday themed table “Christmas in the Mountains” featured a train running around a mountain village with lighted trees.
MCW chief Linda Core was the First Prize winner, as few were able to resist her table’s tempting theme, “Yosemite Romance.” President Core apparently knows her audience well.
While the competition was rigorous, and the top 3 received modest cash prizes, all concerned are said to agree: the real winner is Oakhurst Community Center and the people it serves.
The Oakhurst Community Center is located at 39800 Road 425B.
