Small Vegetation Fire Near Hensley Lake

MADERA COUNTY – Crews are on scene of a small vegetation fire burning just north of Hensley Lake.

Just after 11 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire along Road 400 just north of Road 603, southwest of Yosemite Lakes Park.

A full wildland dispatch was called out, including eight Cal Fire and Madera County engines, two crews out of Mt. Bullion, a water tender and a dozer, and aircraft.

First unit at scene reported the fire at 1/2 acre, along the roadside, with little potential for spread. The Battalion Chief estimated 10 minutes to have the fire contained.

By 11:25, all resources not already at scene were cancelled.

The Incident Commander reported that there were actually two fires, one about 1/8 acre, the other about 1/2 acre. Both were contained by 11:35 p.m.

Initial reports were that the fires were started by a vehicle, and a witness said one vehicle was towing another and sparks from a chain started the fires.
