Senior Firewood Program Returns In Mariposa County

MARIPOSA, CA – As the chilly season approaches, the Mariposa County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Senior Activity Center is thrilled to announce the return of the Senior Firewood Program! This initiative is a lifeline for seniors in our community who need assistance in heating their homes during the colder months.

The Senior Firewood Program is designed to support individuals aged 60 and older who meet low-income guidelines, rely on firewood for heating, and have access to a truck or small trailer for wood pickup. It’s important to note that, due to CalFire regulations, firewood cannot be transported inside vehicles to ensure the safety of all participants.

Distribution of firewood is set to begin on October 20, 2025, with sessions held every Monday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This consistent schedule allows seniors to plan their visits accordingly and ensures a steady supply of firewood as temperatures continue to drop.

For seniors who do not have a truck or trailer, or who are otherwise unable to pick up firewood themselves, the program does allow for another designated person to collect the wood on their behalf. This flexibility is essential to ensure that all eligible individuals can benefit from the program despite transportation challenges.

New applications will be required for this season, and interested participants can pick them up directly at the Mariposa Senior Activity Center, located at 5246 Spriggs Lane in Mariposa. Staff members are on hand to assist with the application process and answer any questions prospective participants may have.

The Senior Wood Program not only provides crucial support for heating homes but also fosters community connections among seniors. By gathering for wood distribution, participants can socialize, share stories, and build relationships, which are vital for their overall well-being, especially during the colder months.

For more information about the Senior Wood Program, or if you have any questions, please reach out to the Mariposa Senior Center at 209-966-6632. The team is eager to assist and ensure that every eligible senior in our community can stay warm and comfortable this winter.

Don’t miss out on this valuable resource—apply today and prepare for a cozy, warm season with the support of the Mariposa County HHSA!
