Search Continues For Possible Drowning Victim At Bass Lake

BASS LAKE — The Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is reporting a possible drowning victim in Bass Lake.

Shortly after 3 pm on Monday, April 24th, 2023, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communication Center was notified of a possible drowning at the Lupine Campground Day Use area of Bass Lake.

Immediately, MCSO Deputies, the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Dive Team, and the Boat Parol Unit responded to the area to search for a 31-year-old male. According to witnesses, the man entered the water to retrieve their rented boat, which had drifted away from the shoreline.

Despite extensive search operations, the victim was not located. Search efforts resumed early this morning, with additional searchers and equipment from the Fresno and Tulare County Sheriff’s Offices.

More information regarding this incident will be released when available.

The identity of the victim will not be released at this time.
