Rock Slide Closes Entrance To Yosemite

EL PORTAL–Officials for Yosemite National Park are reporting that a significant rockfall occurred at approximately 9:00 am this morning on the El Portal Road (continuation of Highway 140 inside Yosemite National Park). This has closed the road from the park boundary in El Portal to the intersection of the Big Oak Flat Road.

There is no access to Yosemite Valley from Highway 140 at this time. Yosemite Valley is still accessible via the Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Highway 120 from the west) and the Wawona Road (continuation of Highway 41).

The road is expected to be closed for a few days and the park will provide updates when available. For current road conditions, call 209/372-0200 (press 1, 1). If visiting the park, come prepared with tire chains.
