Prescribed Burn and Live Fire Training On Highway 41

MADERA COUNTY–Madera County Fire is announcing they will be conducting a prescribed burn and live fire training burn Vegetation Management Project (VMP) near Tesoro Viejo on Wednesday, June 28.

The burn is scheduled from approximately 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., dependent on any restrictions set forth by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and favorable fire weather conditions. The VMP burn will take place along on the East side of Highway 41 to the Madera Canal to Tesoro Boulevard. Smoke will be visible from the community of Tesoro Viejo and Madera Ranchos.

This is a continuation of the earlier prescribed burn shared here.

The objective is to burn approximately 100 acres of open grasslands to continue the reduction of fuels in the fuel break and increase fire protection. This burn also provides firefighters the opportunity to train and accrue live fire experience while learning safe, effective fire suppression techniques.

This prescribed burn will be evaluated hourly on the day of the burn, utilizing a checklist that is based on weather, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.

Please watch for crews and use caution when driving. There will be smoldering heavier fuels throughout the night with crews monitoring the fire.

This is a control burn so please do not report if you are in the project area.
