Pet of the Week – Sweet Pea, Sweet as Can Be

AHWAHNEE—Hi, my name is Sweet Pea, and I am just as sweet as my name.

I came here to the lovely EMC SPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center due to an unfortunate circumstance.  The hooman I used to lived with had to go into a care home, and—much as she wanted to—couldn’t take me with her. So I need a new home that will pet me, spoil me and let me be the only cat.

Sweet and Shy

In my former home, I used to hide when strangers came. I wouldn’t come out until the coast was clear.  If you’ll let me get used to you and the new surroundings, I’m sure we’ll end up being the best of friends. Yes, you’ll find I’m kind of shy. But the nice folks who are taking care of me say that now, with their love and attention, I am slowly coming out of my shell. By the way, I really prefer not to be in a place with kids.

A middle-aged lady of nearly 7 years old, I weigh just under 8 pounds. My former mom took really good care of me, so I am very healthy.

Extra bonus:  I know how to use a litter box.

How to Meet Me

You can get to know me by visiting the Animal Care and Adoption Center. We are open Tuesday through Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. We’re located at 43180 Highway 49, Ahwahnee, just across the road from Wasuma Elementary School. My hoomans’ phone number is (559)404-0925.

Won’t you come see how sweet I am?

After the COVID shutdown upended her world, she "enjoyed" her first retirement months ever and couldn't wait to get back to work. When offered a position in January 2021 as the chamber administrator for Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, she grabbed it and held on tight. Her diverse passions include hiking, beading, dog mushing (observer, not participant), travel, writing and languages. The shutdown offered an opportunity to expand on her journeys to Israel in 2016 and 2018, and she’s now studying Hebrew in preparation for a return to the land she uexpectedly grew to love. She’s investigating other travel prospects, as well, targeted toward the end of 2022.
