OACC Business Spotlight: Starlight Design

Business Spotlight Sponsored by Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce

OAKHURST — One of our newest members of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is a company called Starlight Design, owned by Andrea and John Briar of Coarsegold. Andrea provided the chamber with the following information about their business:

We just started Starlight Design in the spring of this year, although for Andrea, it’s my eighteenth year in the business. We just changed the legal entity from a sole proprietorship to an LLC and added John as its financial guru.

We are located on Starlight Drive in Coarsegold/Yosemite Lakes Park (hence the name ), but we service all US areas. My previous business was in Nashville, TN, and I still have lots of customers on the East Coast.

As of right now, the company is just the two of us, my husband, John Briar, and me. John is in charge of all background work. His expertise is bookkeeping, invoicing, etc, while I deal with customers, ordering garments, designing with clients, digitizing, and running embroidery or printing machines.

We offer garment decorating services, starting from graphic design to embroidery, vinyl cutting, and garment printing. We also make custom epoxy cups.

I’m not sure if we have typical clients; we have worked with customers who had their logo designed by a professional and can hand us the perfect setup graphic, all the way to clients who scribbled their logo on a paper napkin, or even with just an idea in their head. I have taken pictures of a brand on a horse to digitize also.

We definitely accept new clients, since we just moved into this area a year ago and are working on a new customer base.

Until we have lots of work, we’re not hiring at this point, but with my previous embroidery, I have been busy enough to hire staff.

Our goals are to secure more business for Starlight Design, but also contribute to helping out with community goals and events. The Chamber can only be as healthy as its members and businesses. We’ll do our best to make sure we are a positive part of our region!

Her diverse passions include hiking, beading, dog mushing (observer, not participant), travel, writing and languages. She’s investigating other travel prospects, as well, targeted toward the end of 2022.
