Mountain Area Minors Arrested For Arson

MADERA – Two mountain area juveniles have been arrested by Cal Fire Battalion Chief Bernie Quinn, and are now booked in Madera County Juvenile Detention Facility. The pair are suspected of starting the Sundance Fire near Oakhurst that closed Road 420 and prompted the evacuation of dozens of residents on the afternoon of Sept.13.

The District Attorney’s Office will file a petition today alleging felony arson and unlawfully causing a fire.

The youths are expected to appear in Madera Superior Court on Wednesday, Sept. 23, for a detention hearing.

“My office has been working on this case closely with Cal Fire for the past week,” says District Attorney David Linn. “This is part of our joint effort to eradicate arson in the mountain area.”

The Sundance Fire burned 13 acres between Sundance Drive and Paulson Lane.
