Madera County Sherriff’s Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Coarsegold

Coarsegold – On October 4, 2021 shortly after 10am, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received an emergency call for service reporting a shooting at a residence in the 35000 block of Douglas Trail in Coarsegold. Dispatch spoke with a man who indicated he had shot another man at the location in self defense.
Deputies responded to the scene and made contact with the involved party. A deceased person was discovered at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 36 year old Kirk Yeterian of Coarsegold.
At this time, detectives believe the shooting was the result of a physical altercation between the two parties. Though initially detained, the male caller is not under arrest at this time. He continues to be cooperative with the investigation and there is no ongoing threat to the public. His identity is being withheld pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident remains ongoing, and the case will be forwarded to the Madera County District Attorney’s Office for review. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
 The Madera County Sheriff’s Office will release additional information upon the upcoming autopsy and a consultation with the Madera County District Attorney’s Office.
