Madera County Elects First Latina Board Chairwoman

MADERA — In a historic step for Madera County, Supervisor Leticia Gonzalez has officially become the first Latina Chairwoman of the Madera County Board of Supervisors. Notably, Gonzalez’s appointment marks a new chapter in leadership, emphasizing collaboration, transparency, and community progress.

Earlier this week, the swearing-in ceremony took place during the first Board of Supervisors meeting of 2025. As part of the ceremony, District 3 Supervisor Robert L. Poythress and District 4 Supervisor Leticia Gonzalez were both reelected following their success in the November elections. In particular, Poythress, now entering his third term, took the oath of office with his wife, Carol, administering it. Meanwhile, Gonzalez, beginning her second term, had her husband, Cesar Villegas, swear her in.

Gonzalez’s Vision for the Future

Following her official appointment, Chairwoman Gonzalez outlined an ambitious agenda that aims to address the county’s most pressing challenges and seize new opportunities for growth.

During her speech, Gonzalez expressed, “As chairwoman my goal is simple: to be transparent, efficient, and focused on serving the best interests of all who call Madera County home.”

Additionally, she reaffirmed her dedication to leading productive and fair meetings while maintaining accountability to the public. Furthermore, Gonzalez emphasized her intent to set high standards of professionalism and ensure the board leads by example.

She continued, “By holding ourselves to the highest standards, we can inspire confidence and build trust in our community.”

Ultimately, this appointment signifies a personal milestone for Gonzalez and a broader representation of diversity and inclusion within the county’s leadership.
