OAKHURST–Did you know our little mountain community has its own competitive dance team? Nothing stops these hard-working dancers from proudly representing our area. Not fires, floods, or snowmageddon stopped them from recently competing in Fresno at the Starpower National Talent Competition at Selland Arena.
Each year, Starpower National Talent Competition provides close to 80 creative and energy-packed competitions in cities around the world.
Yosemite Dance Company Elite Team is led by studio owner Jessica Hansard, Alex Stoll, and Mariposa High School own Stephanie Bobman.
There are 18 team members from Mariposa, Oakhurst, North Fork, Ahwahnee, and YLP. They practice hours a day up to 6 days a week.
Yosemite Dance Company Elite Team brought 28 dances to Starpower and faced competition from approximately 18 studios across California.
By the end of the 3-day event, they brought home:
- 12 -1st in category awards
- 16 – top tens in the overalls
- 4 – special Judges awards
- 5 – scholarships for special intensive classes
Our Mountain community should be proud of these athletes, artists, and amazing dancers. They go up against some BIG studios, and it’s so wonderful to hear Yosemite Dance Company repeated so many times during the award ceremonies. If you see them out and about, give them a shout-out!
