AUBERRY – The Kerkoff Fire is now estimated at 80 acres, and is burning just above Kerkhoff Reservoir, north of Auberry on the east side of the San Joaquin River Canyon.
The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, near 39000 Powerhouse Road. Firefighters have responded from Cal Fire MMU and the Fresno/Kings Unit, and Sierra National Forest.
Air attack was over the fire all evening, directing operations for three air tankers and two helicopters. Dozers are cutting fireline, and two strike teams of ground crews are also assigned to the incident.
County Roads has closed Road 222 at Road 200 near North Fork with no estimated time to reopen.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
