Join the Rare Conversation: Coffee with a Cop

OAKHURST — Local residents will soon be able to connect with law enforcement officers in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakhurst Area office is hosting a Coffee with a Cop event. This event offers locals a chance to talk about concerns or simply enjoy a cup of coffee with community officers.

A Unique Opportunity for the Community

During this gathering, CHP officers, deputies from the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, and other local law enforcement personnel will meet with residents. They will discuss community issues, answer questions, and build stronger relationships. Unlike traditional interactions that usually happen during emergencies or stressful situations, this event fosters open communication in a neutral, friendly environment.

Typically, when community members interact with law enforcement, it happens in high-pressure situations. Therefore, many people may feel hesitant to approach officers on the street. Coffee with a Cop aims to break down those barriers, allowing residents to speak with officers in a casual, one-on-one setting.

“We hope community members will welcome the opportunity to ask questions, bring concerns forward, or simply get to know the officers,” said Lieutenant Jeff Mesa. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

No Reservations Needed

Importantly, this event is completely open to the public, and no reservations are required. It will take place on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 at Bee’s Bakery in Oakhurst, starting at 7:00 a.m.
