John West Neighborhood Takes Action

OAKHURST – Residents in the John West Road, Jean Road East/West area aren’t fooling around when it comes to fire safety this season.

After a couple fires that many residents consider “suspicious” in their neighborhood over the past few weeks, they are banding together to create a phone tree to alert each other should the need arise.

Tomorrow evening, Friday, June 13, at 7 p.m., residents are invited to attend a short gathering at 40682 Jean Road East to exchange contact information in order to create a telephone tree in case of fire or other emergency situations. There will also be discussion of the recent fires in the area.

The John West area is especially vulnerable in the event of a large fire, as there is only one way in and one way out. Everyone wants to be vigilant and prepared, and this is one way neighbors can accomplish that.

If you want to be part of the effort, but can’t be at the meeting, just send an email with your name, address and phone number to jeanrdloop@gmail.com.

Editor’s note: Madera County residents, please be sure you have all registered at MCAlert.org to receive emergency notifications from the Sheriff’s Office. In Mariposa County visit http://www.mariposacounty.org/index.aspx?NID=82
