OAKHURST — Helping One Woman (HOW) is coming together this January to support Maria Ines Johnson during a difficult time. The community is gathering for dinner, a raffle, and auctions to support Maria and make a difference.
A Glimpse of Her Story
Maria and her late husband, Mark Johnson, happily shared 31 years of marriage. They built a life together in O’Neals after relocating in 1996. Unfortunately, Mark passed away unexpectedly on August 27th from a fatal heart attack.
Mark was a cherished member of the community and the sole provider for their family. Without life insurance, Maria is now facing financial difficulties from funeral expenses and day-to-day living costs. This HOW event aims to ease some of that burden and show Maria that she is not alone.

- RSVP Deadline: Saturday, January 18th
- Event Date: Wednesday, January 22nd, 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
- Where: Bee’s Bakery Café in Oakhurst
- Cost: Purchase a dinner ticket — prices vary based on meal choice (details below)
- Additional Gift: A $10 minimum monetary recipient gift for Maria will be collected at the door (cash, check, or Venmo). All proceeds go directly to Maria Ines Johnson.
- Dinner Options:
- Chicken Parmigiana — $25.60 (served with pasta, vegetables, and focaccia)
- Soup and Salad — $23.50 (choice of Italian meatball or minestrone, served with focaccia)
- Each meal includes drinks such as soda, tea, or lemonade.
NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR, SO MAKE SURE TO RSVP AHEAD OF TIME.
HOW You Can Help
In addition to attending the dinner, there are other ways to support Maria:
- Donate a raffle or auction item — Contact a HOW Leader to arrange a pickup.
- Monetary Donations — Donations can also be made directly at the event.
This is a family-friendly event open to everyone — you do not need to know Maria to attend. The goal is simply to come together as a community and help someone in need.
