Hit & Run Suspect Suffers Major Injuries in Escape Attempt

FRESNO — Shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022, officers from the Fresno Police Department Northwest District were dispatched to the La Quinta Inn at 5077 North Cornelia Avenue regarding a deceased person in the parking lot. Officers arrived and discovered the partial remains of a female.

It was quickly determined that the female, later identified as 29-year-old Monique Contreraz, had been struck by a vehicle, driven by 38-year-old Shawn Ginder, at the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Milburn Avenue in Fresno.

Detectives from the departments Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and began their investigation. Contreraz, who was homeless, was pushing a shopping cart and walking her dog on a leash when struck by Ginder’s truck. She was trapped under the vehicle, which then traveled approximately eight miles until it stopped at the La Quinta Inn.

Surveillance video captured the suspect pulling into the hotel, exiting his vehicle, then leaving shortly after. Ginder was then seen driving southbound on Cornelia Avenue towards Shaw Avenue.

On Friday afternoon, police found the pickup truck at the Greystone Apartments complex near the Fig Garden Loop in Fresno. He was then traced to an address near Bass Lake, CA.
