Highway 41 Reopens Through Oakhurst

OAKHURST – CHP is advising that Highway 41 through Oakhurst has been reopened to all traffic, residents and businesses.

The road was closed yesterday afternoon as the Junction Fire burned across the highway and forced the evacuation of major parts of Oakhurst and the surrounding area.

Roads That remain closed:

Road 620, River Falls Road, Road 222 from Highway 41 to Road 274 and John West Road at Jean Road East.

Roads Now Open:

CA-41; Road 425A; and all roads on the west side of CA-41 except for 620, are now open to traffic.

Motorists are advised to use caution, as fire equipment is still in the area.

Highway 41 is open to traffic heading in and out of Yosemite National Park. We will update as we learn more, and are waiting for an update from Cal Fire on the Junction Fire.

As one who has spent much of his career in the news business — including 29 years as an editor and/or reporter — I want to congratulate Gina Clugston and Sierra News for providing by far the most consistent and comprehensive reports on the Junction Fire. Gina, you are a terrific reporter and fine writer. Thank you for successfully accomplishing what so few other reporters manage to do over the past 48 hours — keeping everyone consistently well informed.
