Highway 41 Claims Another Life

MADERA COUNTY — On Feb. 2, 2022, the Merced Communications Center (MCC) received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident on State Route 41 just south of Road 406 in Madera County. A vehicle was reportedly overturned off the roadway and California Highway Patrol Madera area units were dispatched to investigate and establish incident command.

According to the Report of Collision-News Release from Shasta Tollefson, an officer with the Central Division of the California Highway Patrol, the initial investigation determined that a red 2003 Acura CL was traveling southbound on SR41. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Acura drifted off the west roadways edge. The driver then veered to the left and overcorrected. At that point, the Acura traveled across SR41 and went off the east roadway, down a steep, descending embankment. This was followed by the Acura overturning and coming to a rest on it’s roof.

The driver was transported by air ambulance to CRMC (Community Regional Medical Center) in Fresno with major injuries. The right, front passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene. Alcohol and/or drug use is suspected. One-way traffic control was in affect until approximately midnight to assist the tow operator in recovering the vehicle.
