Goose Fire Now 65 Percent Contained

PRATHER — Firefighters are making good progress on the Goose Fire, burning south of Prather, which has charred 2,185 acres and is now 65 percent contained.

Interior islands and isolated fuels continued to burn and smolder, and firefighters continue to construct and improve containment lines today. Fire suppression repair will also begin today.

PG&E has restored power to most of the fire area, however one area in Black Mountain has yet to be restored.

Residents who had been evacuated have been allowed to return home, but they remain on evacuation warning status. Residents are urged to be cautious of emergency crews and fire personnel working in the area while returning home. The area continues to be restricted to residents only.

There are currently 1,784 personnel assigned to the incident, including 97 engines, 53 crews, 8 helicopters, 3 air tankers, 19 dozers and 37 water tenders.

The Goose fire is burning off Gooseberry Lane and Morgan Canyon, along Highway 168, and was reported on Saturday, July 30.

There have been 9 structures lost in the fire, including 4 homes and 5 outbuildings. Over 400 homes have been threatened.

Evacuation Warnings:

  • Hwy 168 from Lockwood to bottom of the 4-lanes @ Hwy 168 & Lodge Road
  • Hwy 168 from Gooseberry Lane to Nicholas
  • Nicholas and Tollhouse to Tollhouse & Lodge
  • All Roads North of Tollhouse and East of Hwy 168
  • Hwy 168 @ Lockwood to Gooseberry including homes accessed by Gooseberry and Lockwood
  • Black Mt. area including Whispering Springs Lane to Lodge Road
  • Everything South of the 4-lanes at Hwy 168 to Lodge Rd and everything West of Old Tollhouse Road
  • Gooseberry and Sky Ridge Lane East to Lodge Road including Black Mountain

  • Black Mountain Road at Lodge Road
  • Black Mountain Road at Penny Royal Road
  • Black Mountain Road at Conservatory Road
  • Black Mountain Road at Flying Stump Ranch Road
