Initially, the workshop will kick off with a one-to two-hour educational session on the best practices for pile burning, where participants will learn the essentials of fire safety and management. Attendees should bring notepads for note-taking and camp chairs for seating during the session.

Following the discussion, participants will spend the remainder of the day engaging in hands-on pile-burning activities, applying what they’ve learned in a practical setting.

Preparation & Safety Guidelines

Moreover, participants should wear natural fiber clothing, including jeans, long-sleeve cotton shirts, and leather boots (non-steel-toe). The YGPBC will provide fire-resistant Nomex clothing, hard hats, eye protection, and leather gloves for additional safety.

Additional Recommendations

  • Food and Water: Attendees should bring their meals and water, although snacks will be provided. It is recommended to bring a backpack to carry personal items and take breaks as needed.
  • Tools: Bring any tools that might aid in burning activities, such as weedwhackers, lighters, hand tools, and chainsaws. Note that this event is not a chainsaw training session; however, those who are experienced are encouraged to bring and use their own equipment.

Future Learning Opportunities

Looking ahead, the YGPBC will offer an Intro to Chainsaws class in the fall, and free S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaw classes are available periodically at Yosemite Adult School for those interested in further skill development.

This workshop offers a unique opportunity for the community to come together to learn about an essential aspect of land management and wildfire prevention. Join the YGPBC for a day of learning, safety, and community engagement.
