Special Announcement:
Garnet Fire officials will host a virtual community meeting tonight at 5:30 PM to provide an update on the current situation and address questions. Please send any questions you would like addressed in the meeting to 2025.garnet.ca@firenet.gov ahead of time.
Current Situation:
In the past few days, crews have been working day and night, achieving significant progress in securing containment lines. Containment of the fire is now at 69%. A strategic firing operation along McKinley Grove Road was initiated yesterday, which is helping to prevent the fire from advancing to the northwest. Today, crews will continue the firing operation, beginning mid-morning with the goal of completing it by this evening. Around the fire’s perimeter, firefighters continue to mop up, searching for any hotspots or areas of concern to ensure that the fire lines remain secure.
Weather:
Partly cloudy skies and smoky conditions were observed overnight and into the morning. Moisture recovery varied from good to excellent, with relative humidity reaching 88%. Today marks the beginning of a warming and drying trend that is expected to continue for several days.
Air Quality:
Decreased fire activity due to higher relative humidity will continue to moderate smoke production. All locations will experience good air quality in general with brief periods of moderate air quality. You can check your local air quality at: airnow.gov/.
Evacuations and Road Closures – No significant changes
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation orders, warnings, and road closures for areas affected by the Garnet Fire in the Sierra National Forest. Full updates on the fire and evacuation maps are available from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. The evacuation map is an interactive tool that allows residents to search by their physical address, general location, or evacuation zone.
Forest Closure – Changes
The Sierra National Forest updated closures today, September 13, 2025, in response to the full suppression effort on the Garnet Fire. The partial closure order was coordinated with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple local, state, and federal agency cooperators, to identify the minimum area necessary for the safety of firefighting resources and forest visitors.
