Fox Fire Prompts Evacuations Near Mormon Bar

MARIPOSA COUNTY – The Fox Fire, burning just south of Mormon Bar near Mariposa, has prompted mandatory evacuations on Lookout Mountain, Daffodil and Alamo Creek. No other evacuations are anticipated in the area at this time, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was reported at 12:10 p.m. today, on Lookout Road near Foxfield Road, and is estimated between 10 -15 acres, with a potential for a high rate of spread.

In addition to the original dispatch, two strike teams of engines have been called up to respond to the incident.

Red Cross volunteers are opening an evacuation center for residents affected by the Fox Fire at the New Life Christian Church, 5089 Cole Road in Boot Jack.

CHP and Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies are assisting in traffic control and evacuation notices to residents in the area.
