Firewood On Vehicle Starts Grass Fire Near YLP

COARSEGOLD – Firefighters were called out to a report of a vegetation fire along Highway 41 just north of Yosemite Springs Parkway this afternoon.

Just before 12:30 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 24, reports came in of a grass fire, and also a vehicle on fire near the same location. The vehicle, however, was reportedly still moving along the highway, and CHP was also notified of the problem.

Battalion 4215 arrived on scene to find about one acre burning, and firefighters quickly got a line around the blaze. The smoking vehicle, meanwhile, had pulled over at Aaron’s Mini Storage just north of the fire.

Apparently, firewood had been stacked in an external storage rack that was right in front of the exhaust pipe, and it caught fire, igniting the rear of the vehicle, which started the fire.

The blaze was extinguish and the smoking vehicle was towed away.
