Firefighters Quickly Handle North Fork Blaze

NORTH FORK – Just before 9 p.m. this evening, firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire on Road 200 near Road 224 (Bonnie B).

At first, it was hard to locate, with nothing showing from the roadway and no smell of smoke. But a huge plume soon showed itself, and crews wasted no time getting to work.

The fire was burning in a pasture behind a residence on the south side of Road 200 between Golden Acorn Court and Ellis Way.

Engines from Cal Fire and Madera County Fire responded, along with out-of-area engines that were covering local stations whose engines are assigned to the Bridge Fire.

Firefighters had the blaze knocked down in short order, holding it to just a few acres. They are continuing mopup, patrol and line reinforcement as of 10 p.m.

The cause is not known at this time.
