Fire Shuts Down Road 600 South Of Hensley Lake

MADERA COUNTY — Road 600 just south of Road 603 near Hensley Lake, is closed in both directions as firefighters battle a vegetation fire caused by a motor vehicle accident.

At 6:55 p.m. a full wildland dispatch was called out after reports of a vehicle hitting the embankment and starting a fire.

First engine at scene reported a Chevy pickup fully engulfed and five acres of vegetation on fire. All three occupants were out of the vehicle, one with major injures, two with reported minor injuries.

Air Attack was overhead in short order, along with two air tankers and a helicopter The roadway was closed in both directions as firefighter worked to get the blaze contained.

At about 7:40 p.m., air resources were released, and some of the engines at scene returned to their stations.

UPDATE 9 p.m. — CHP reports all lanes are now open on Road 600.
