Fire On Triangle Road Forces Road Closure

MARIPOSA COUNTY – A fire burning on Triangle Road about 4 miles north of Highway 49 is prompting the closure of Carter Road between Triangle Road and Buckingham Mountain Road.

First engine on scene reported about 5 acres burning, bolstered by 3-5 mph winds with a moderate rate of spread.

Two structures are threatened at this time, and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has been called in to assist with the road closure and any possible evacuation notices.

The fire was reported at 12:06 p.m. north of Triangle Road about one mile east of Carter Road.

Battalion Chiefs 4215 and 4211 responded, along with Cal Fire engines 4285, 4292, 4261, 4264, 4271, 4291 and 4294, along with two dozers, two crews out of Mount Bullion, Companies 29 and 21, and Sierra National Forest Engines 12 and 314. One air tanker and two helicopters are also en route.

At 12:35 p.m., additional resources were call up, including Cal Fire Engines 4295, 4255, 4284, 4281, Water Tenders 37 and 33, and two additional crews from Mount Bullion.

Residents in the area should be prepared to evacuate if it becomes necessary.
