Fire On Highway 41 Near The Rocky Cut

MADERA COUNTY — Firefighters are on scene of a vegetation fire burning along Highway 41 near the Rocky Cut.

The Bates Fire was reported at 9:45 a.m. on the east side of the road, and by 9:49, multiple callers to 911 reported the fire was now on both sides of the road.

A full wildland dispatch is being called up, and aircraft are en route.

According to CHP, northbound traffic is being stopped.

At 10:03 a.m., the first unit at scene reported the fire at one acre with a slow rate of spread.

The incident commander thinks they can get this picked up quickly, and asked dispatch to hold all aircraft.

At 10:06 a.m., the fire was contained, and all aircraft were cancelled, as were all resources not already at scene.

Traffic backups continue as of 11 a.m., but all lanes are open and should clear out soon.
