Fire Destroys Home On Horn Road Near North Fork

NORTH FORK – Even with a quick response by firefighters, a home on Horn Road just off Bonnie B burned to the ground this afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m., neighbors heard a strange noise and went outside to investigate. They saw the house next door completely engulfed in flames, and called 911.

When the first engine arrived at scene, the second floor of the two-story home was already gone and fire had sparked up into the surrounding trees, several of which were dead.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the home and keep it from spreading to adjacent buildings, including a large, two-story garage building.

According to neighbors, no one had lived in the house since last summer, and there was apparently nobody on the property when the fire broke out.

The fire was contained by 4:15 p.m., but the home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
