Fire Closes Road 621 Near Ahwahnee

AHWAHNEE – A fire burning on Road 621 near Ahwahnee is causing officials to call for the closing of the road to allow safe, clear access for fire equipment to the scene.

According to radio traffic, one structure has been lost. The fire then spread to the wildlands, burning about one acre before crews stopped the forward progress.

Two other structures are threatened.

There are currently seven Cal Fire engines assigned to the incident, along with two Sierra National Forest Engines, Madera County Engine 12, one water tender, one dozer and two crews from Mt. Bullion.

Air resources have been called off as of 3 p.m., and one dozer has been released.
