Fire Burns Nearly 5 Acres Near Mariposa

MARIPOSA COUNTY – A vegetation fire in the Buckeye Road area southwest of Mariposa yesterday caused concern for residents and some short-term road closures.

Initial reports came in at 1:23 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, of a fire burning just off Old Highway near Bridgeport Drive.

A full wildland response was dispatched, including aircraft and dozers, and road closures were set up on Buckeye Road at Ben Hur and Ramsden to allow clear and safe access for fire equipment, and protect the public.

One spot fire was found just north of Buckeye Road, and two engines were diverted to that location, and had it knocked down in short order.

The main fire was contained at 4.7 acres later in the afternoon, with no loss of structures and no injuries reported.
