SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST — Smoke can be seen from across the area from the Sacata Fire, burning near Sacata Ridge, located above Pine Flat Reservoir near Haslett Basin.
The fire was reported at 1 p.m. and quickly grew to over 350 acres. It is currently burning in tall grass west of Road 10S69 near Deep Creek and is east of Eagle Peak.
No structures are threatened at this time, and no evacuations have been ordered. According to the U.S. Forest Service, they have dispatched six engines, two helicopters and two hand crews to battle the blaze.
Cal Fire is also assisting and providing firefighters and equipment, along with other agencies. There was Air Attack over the fire all day, along with air tankers.
Crews will continue to work throughout the night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. We will update as more information becomes available.
